Working and traveling as a digital nomad has been on the rise for the past few years, with people interested in a life that doesn’t require them to be at an office or desk. Essentially you take your office anywhere there’s wifi and explore new places each week. Yes, please!

The new Lifestyle of today is accelerating this trend because more people than ever can now work from home. As a result, there are more possibilities for travel and tourism. Borders are also opening up again due to the recession fading away.

Despite many companies going work-from-home, most still require you to relocate for tax, employee culture, or higher management.

So if you want to be a digital nomad—to travel the world and work remotely, freelancing or contracting gigs—you will need to establish yourself as a freelancer.

There is a thread on jobs for digital nomads from Reddit (r/digitalnomad) with the following question: Where can I find digital nomad jobs for beginners? or one about digital nomad jobs with no experience? Required.

There are digital nomad jobs that pay well, but the top positions are in highly-skilled roles. If you’re looking for a high-paying digital nomad job, then make sure to check out the articles I’ve linked below.

Here are some ideas for digital nomad jobs that you can start with little experience.

Writing

Freelance writing can be done from any part of the world, as long as you are a native speaker in the language you’re writing in and have experience in content creation.

You could be a copywriter (or editor), work on the content’s sub-editing, or even come up with blog titles for products you’re selling.

You can charge higher per assignment or word if you’re a specialist writer with a specific focus. However, generalist writers with many skillsets can negotiate a decent fee if they work hard and maintain good relationships with their clients.

Digital marketer

Digital marketers are pretty diverse, but digital marketing is about social media management, SEO or SEM optimization, and strategy to achieve your digital marketing goals.

Digital nomads, on the other hand, are already familiar with online platforms like TikTok and Instagram since they spend excessive time scrolling through them to keep up with work or catch up with friends.

Those making their first foray into this realm could start in freelance roles where they manage certain aspects of digital marketing, such as social media management or even digital data analytics, to assess the effectiveness of digital marketing efforts. At the same time, the overall execution is led by a full-time employee.

Professionals with more experience can take on the role of digital marketing consultants. They will manage each aspect of the process, from start to finish, and ensure that your company’s brand is in good shape. Having a digital marketing consultant can help increase your company’s brand awareness or generate digital leads or sales.

Virtual assistant

No, you don’t need to be Jamie, and you don’t need to be, however, a chatbot. As a virtual assistant, you can help with administrative tasks remotely, no matter where you are.

Thanks to cloud services, it’s easy to access shared accounts, which are the perfect tool for working on shared files and spreadsheets. You can easily collaborate on documents too.

By becoming a VA, you can help entrepreneurs by saving them valuable time. You can also be hired by small businesses that don’t have an office.

You might have various duties depending on what you agree to do with your employer. Some of these are intermittent, while others are ongoing.

Typically, they can help make and receive phone calls, schedule appointments or meetings, manage email accounts, and even make travel arrangements.

There are two win-sides to this deal. First, the employer gets more qualified candidates, and you get to work when and how long you want.

Designing

You might be skilled in creativity rather than literacy. You don’t need to be an artist either – you may find that this skill is helpful for specific creative roles.

Thousands of companies use graphic design services, such as brochure printing, e-book layout design, logo development, and other design firms.

You can try thinking of designing in new ways: for example, creating the visuals for a website, researching user experience on different devices, or teaching others about your home country.

These days, you don’t need to know Photoshop or Illustrator to get a foot in the door. So here are some free web-based software that is as good as the paid ones: Canva, Figma, and many more. But, of course, you’ll be paid better when people can see what you can do and know that you have skills by yourself.

Photography

People have different skills, and some will have a knack for photography. However, regardless of your equipment or years of experience, your quality as a photographer relies on factors such as your eye and creativity. Knocking a few pictures out of the park will require you to get your camera and phone up to speed. As mobile phone upgrades, professional cameras are shrinking, making them easy to take on the go with you as you explore.

You can make more money by selling your images as stock photography, and you can also do it with photos of less-known places (like the ones you travel to), people, or food.

The skill of photography is something that spans cultures, languages, and borders. If you’re good at it and enjoy it, you can keep taking pictures wherever in the world you go.

Get a temporary job photographing portraits or weddings. You may even find photography opportunities in your current location that you can use to make money.

Translating

Fluent in more than one language? Here’s some information and advice on translating. So many people from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries come here to do business and exchange ideas — a lot of that has to do with silencing the language barrier.

Let’s say you translate articles on your own or for a company. You would use machine translation when it comes to the ingredients of food labels, subtitles for TV shows and movies, books translated into different languages, etc.

Teaching

If you want to teach English overseas and travel to Japan, you might want to consider the JET Programme. They may be tough on the selection process, though.

But as technology changes, we see teachers from all over the world coming to teach in our colleges and universities and sometimes even meeting up with local students. A global university is one where a teacher from overseas can come in to teach remotely if they don’t have a college or program.

Think Curtin, INSEAD, ESSEC, and other notable business schools. In recent years, remote learning can be a very effective way to reach your goals.

You don’t need to be an educator to share your knowledge. You can create courses and post them online. One place you could try is Skillshare, or you could earn money by creating a system on YouTube and being part of the MasterClass program.

You can even give remote tuition or become a digital coach in the things you excel in, which might cover anything from finance to baking.

App developer or programmer

Don’t have a coding background? That’s not a problem anymore. Look up courses online that will teach you how to code and design your app.

Some online app builders make coding and programming unnecessary. However, it simplifies website or e-commerce development and can help you if you have at least a little programming knowledge.

From what I understood, many remote jobs are available for app developers and even full-stack programmers.

You probably don’t care how you’re using the computer as long as it gets the job done. The speed at which data travels is getting faster, so it doesn’t make a difference.

Service agent

Outsourcing your call center or customer service operations can help bring in revenue without the associated costs of hiring in-house staff or a marketing agency. You, too, can take advantage of this!

You will be given a list of responses and remote access, so don’t worry about getting in too deep with angry customers. Another option that you can take is being a telemarketer and doing surveys by phone. Be mindful about the DNC, though!
